Lindy Pollard - Saxophone
Lindy Pollard started out on clarinet in elementary school, going on to play in the orchestras
and marching bands in junior high and high school. His last two summers in high school, he
played saxophone and clarinet with the San Jacinto Junior College dance band. He majored in
music for a year at North Texas State University. He played woodwinds and percussion with a free-form jazz group called "Ziraj" here in Houston for a few years which included Mark Towns, John Newcott and Rick Morgan. He had the
pleasure of opening for a couple of concerts locally. One was for Ralph Towner and John
Abercrombie at the original Tower Theatre. Another was for Airto and Flora Purim at Liberty Hall,
long gone, but not forgotten. He also played with a local band called "The Live Band" which included drummer Keith
Karnaky and guitarist Freddy McLain, who now lives in Corpus Christi. They originally played at
Anderson Fair Retail Restaurant Sunday nights
and later at a club called Theodore's. He started playing with Mark Towns with his latin/salsa
groups
and then eventually met Norma
when she joined the group. He met the legendary, Roberto Zenteno through Norma and that
led to playing with his and Norma Zenteno's band.
He has played in various contexts with Gilbert Sedeno, Paul
English, Joe LoCasio, Bobby Henschen, Ricky Diaz and Maria Williams.
